U.S. PRESIDENT

  • Full legal name: Chen Fe Mengsei (13 letters).

  • He was born in San Francisco in 2014 to a Chinese father and American mother (also of Chinese heritage).

  • His early life was in Shanghai, where is sister, Biyu, was born (thus Biyu was a Chinese citizen).

  • He came back to San Francisco at age ten and attended boarding schools there.

  • He eventually moved to Boston where he earned multiple engineering degrees at MIT, then joined DARPA, and then the CIEX Space Program where he met his best friend, fellow astronaut Scott Rose.

  • He was considered the hero of the Lunalpha Disaster in 2042, awarded the Medal of Honor during President Gavin Newsom's second term.

  • He carried deep regret for his actual ignition of the Lunalpha Disaster, but was swept up in all the adulation afterwards, calling him a hero, and once he had not set the record straight at that point, he felt boxed in to keeping it a lifelong secret.

  • Both of his parents died in the 2040s.

  • He was first elected to Congress (as a Representative from the State of California) in 2046.

  • In 2049, he married Diane, and they had a son and a daughter.

  • He was elected U. S. Senator from California in 2052.

  • He was elected the 52nd President of the United States in 2060.

  • He remained very close to his sister, Biyu Mengsei.

  • He grew to rely heavily on the confidence and friendship of Secret Service Director Angela Derasmo.

  • He was considered thoughtful, reserved, a devoted husband and father, and always the diplomat.

  • He was fearful that his Chinese heritage would be used against him, and yet nothing would upset him more than the suggestion that he was any less American.

  • He was deeply worried that he was allowing America to slip toward a second civil war, but was highly conflicted about declaring marshal law and sending in federal troops.

  • He regretted ever taking campaign dollars from CIEX for his Congressional and Presidential races because doing so required giving some leeway to EON. The biggest consolation he gave EON was picking their candidate, Patricia Johnson, as his running mate.

  • His best friend was Scott Rose, but Mengsei was never sure if the friendship was solid coming from Rose. Mengsei often wondered if Rose had maintained their friendship only due to their shared secrets about Lunalpha.

  • For more, see the Lunalpha Disaster, BWS Technology, and details that emerge across the Series Story.
